The first thing I bought when it started to cool down was a black faux leather moto jacket. I had looked for a good deal on one all last year, sadly, to no avail. A few months ago I walked into trusty ol’ Forever 21 and what did I spy with my little eye hanging on the rack? Why, it was this little gem. For $21! Perfect!
I love that it makes any outfit a little edgy, but it’s easy to take it a little too far and look full-on biker chick if you aren’t careful. This season I have seen moto jackets in softer shades like grey, blush, beige, navy and brown. These options are much easier to style for a softer look, but I have some tips to help you if you have a black moto-style jacket.
1. Add texture
Adding a cozy, chunky sweater under your jacket will take the edge off. You could also add a scarf for a similar effect.
2. Make it your statement piece
Wearing your moto jacket with a pair of sexy heels is great for a night out, but if you’re just heading out to lunch with the girls, keep the rest of your outfit pretty simple. Dainty jewelry, simple shoes and a basic shirt and jeans is a great look.
3. Get sporty
I am looooving the retro New Balance and Nike shoes that are all over the fashion blogs right now. A moto jacket is perfect to throw over a fitted hoodie with jeans and cute retro sneaks. Let the hood hang out over your jacket collar and you’ve also got a cute layered look!
I feel like the moto jacket is winter’s version of the denim jacket. It’s so versatile! With that said, if you are trying NOT to look like a punk rocker or a biker chick, try to avoid spiky accessories, chunky shoes and boots and overly distressed jeans. Keep the rest of your outfit fairly clean and simple and you are good to go!
Here are some I found for under $50, which is a great deal for an awesome jacket like this! Just hover over the one you like to see the price and click on it to see more details or buy!
